5Star fiddles and violas are designed from the beginning as five-string instruments. They have a sound that is unlike anything else around, and everything about them is designed to provide the ultimate in playability for a five-stringed instrument.
From the deep crisp sound of the C string, to the highest notes on the E string, the sound is unique. The lower strings are rich and "chocolaty", while the upper strings are sweet and open, offering an unmatched range of expression.
The unique voice of these instruments stimulates creativity and draws new ideas from a player. The additional range and unique tonalities offer musical opportunities afforded by no other instrument. You'll likely find yourself trying out ideas that would never have occurred to you before. Playabilty The 5Star Fiddles have a larger body and deeper ribs necessary for a strong C string, but the length of the strings is the same as a standard violin. 5Star Violas have a 15 1/2 inch body, but only a 14 inch string length, the maximum allowable for an E string. The bridge is wider and higher to allow proper string spacing and easy articulation with the bow. Two neck widths are offered: "Standard" offers a normal viola-width neck for those who prefer a slimmer profile, while the "Wide" neck allows the same string spacing as on a four-string instrument for those who prefer the extra room.
