This unique archtop guitar is designed and crafted by Alex Svistunov, one of the luthiers at K.C. Strings. This type of instrument falls under the general catagory of being an "Orchestral Archtop". It is crafted in the tradition of the original archtop luthiers of the early 20th century.

But this archtop is also crafted in the tradition of bowed string instruments. It is made of curley maple and engleman spruce. The sides overhang the ribs and both plates are inlaid with purfling. This is an important evolution because standard bindings doom a guitar to developing cracks. The reason all bowed string instruments have plates that overhang the ribs is so that as the plates naturally expand and contract they can pop free from the ribs allowing them to move. Then the plates can be reglued back down onto the ribs in their new relaxed position without cracking. In turn the inlaid purfling stops cracks that usually form at the edges of the instrument from moving into the body of the instrument.

Ironically the players that have played on this guitar have found the rounded edges to be more comfortable than the sharp edges of bindings and that the plate overhang actually helps the guitar from not sliding around on the leg.

K.C. Strings also worked with the acoustics of the guitar. Maximizing the plates potential and applying our secret sealer and varnish components in the Italian style. The end result is a tone that has a unique combination of a singing warmth quality, openess and projection not found in any other type of guitar made today. And a look like the instruments of the Italian masters. For the discerning ear and eye, this archtop is a pleasure to play on.
